Anyone wishing to carry out scaffolding inspections must meet certain criteria in order to be considered competent. The National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) recommends that the individual have the proper training, knowledge, and experience to do so. It is important that those carrying out inspections are qualified to do so in order to ensure safety and compliance with all applicable regulations.
A person who holds a CISRS Scaffolder card is considered to have the necessary skills to inspect scaffolds and other related structures if their employer can demonstrate that they have the required knowledge and experience as stated in both the CISRS Part 1 and Part 2 courses.
A CISRS Advanced scaffolder cardholder is considered competent to inspect and assess scaffolds and structures covered in both Part 1 and 2 of the CISRS, and any advanced courses, provided their employer can demonstrate they also have the necessary knowledge and experience.
Employees in management and supervision roles, responsible for inspecting scaffolds and completing reports in accordance with working at height regulations, may be deemed competent to inspect scaffolds and structures at a basic level provided their employer can show they have the necessary knowledge and experience, and have passed the knowledge test at the end of the CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection Training Scheme course.
